In today's fast-paced world, the sheer volume of news can be overwhelming. Staying informed is more challenging than ever, with an endless stream of updates making it difficult to keep track of what truly matters.
The goal of Future Facing is to provide semi-frequent update of things I think we, American citizens, should care about and why. Rather than simply listing headlines, I try to select stories which may fly under the radar but deserve attention, ensuring they are sourced from reputable and verified outlets.
This is not a partisan outlet. It is not about political agendas or taking sides. The goal is to foster awareness and understanding of key developments that impact our world. By staying informed, we empower ourselves to make better decisions and contribute to a more informed, engaged society—ultimately shaping a better future for the next generation.
Executive Order

Why is this important?
While the initiative's stated purpose is to protect religious freedoms, it has raised concerns regarding the constitutional principle of separation of church and state. Critics argue that prioritizing one religion in government actions may violate the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment, which prohibits government endorsement of a particular religion.
The constitutionality of this executive order will likely depend on its implementation and whether it unduly favors Christianity over other religions or infringes upon the religious freedoms of others.
More context:
Trump established the task force and its responsibilities which include recommending steps to terminate "violative policies, practices, or conduct." He will also be directing AG Pam Bondi to lead a task force on eradicating "anti-Christian" bias in the fed.
Rev. Paula White, who has served as a religious adviser to him for years, will be leading this new office.
In the order, Trump directed the office to identify ways to reduce burdens on the free exercise of religion and direct all federal agencies to designate a “faith liaison” within 90 days.

The OMB helps the President of the United States manage the federal budget and ensure that the Executive Branch implements the President's priorities. OMB also oversees the administration of federal agencies and their programs.

Steve Bannon: The opposition party is the media. And the media can only, because they're dumb and they're lazy, they can only focus on one thing at a time...
All we have to do is flood the zone. Every day we hit them with three things. They'll bite on one, and we'll get all of our stuff done. Bang, bang, bang. These guys will never - will never be able to recover. But we've got to start with muzzle velocity. So it's got to start, and it's got to hammer..."

This is the playbook for this administration. The main source of what the government is doing comes via the media (mainstream, independent, social, etc.). If you overload the media by giving it too many places it needs to look, all at once, it's impossible to build a coherent opposition. It's all too overwhelming.

Removing scientific information from public view makes us less safe and less informed.
Many pages that did not seem related to "gender" or "diversity" had also been taken down, such as AtlasPlus, an interactive tool from CDC with surveillance data on HIV, viral hepatitis, STDs and TB. Also gone missing: a page with basic information about HIV testing. The CDC's Social Vulnerability Index, a tool that assesses community resilience in the event of natural disaster was also taken down.
More Context:
Already, content from the CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, which includes data from a national survey, has disappeared; so have parts of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry’s Social Vulnerability Index and the Environmental Justice Index. The CDC’s landing page for HIV data has also vanished. And the agency’s AtlasPlus tool, which contains nearly 20 years of CDC surveillance data on HIV, hepatitis, sexually transmitted infections, and tuberculosis, is down.

IGs are independent and appointed without regard to their political affiliation. Their goal is to prevent and detect waste, fraud and abuse while ensuring that agencies are operating efficiently and honestly. We need these people to protect us.
Trump's removal, without cause or advance notice, is illegal.
Among those inspectors general reportedly removed included those for the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense and Education.
More Context:
Senator Grassley (R-Iowa), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, is requesting that Trump provide a written explanation for why he fired each of at least 17 IGs over the weekend. He sent a letter to Trump, which was signed by Senato Durbin (D-Illinois). Trump's actions broke a law that Grassley helped pass back in 2022 that requires presidents to give Congress 30 days advance notice and a "substantive rationale, including details and case-specific reasons" for such removal.

June 2023 - US DoT IG found that 77% of air traffic control facilities critical to the industry's daily operations were short-staffed

The United States' biggest food export is soybeans, with exports of $28b in 2023. While this closure does not impact production of soybeans, as the Lab primarily focused on improving soybean production in developing countries, there could be other consequences:
Reduced Global Market Influence – We have been a leader in agricultural innovation, and cutting this program may weaken our influence in shaping global soybean markets and production methods.
Economic and Trade Effects – By supporting international soybean development, the lab helped expand markets for U.S. agricultural technology and products. Its closure could reduce future trade opportunities.
Research and Innovation Setback – The lab contributed to advancements in soybean genetics, sustainability, and farming techniques, some of which could have benefited American farmers over time.
Geopolitical Consequences – With the U.S. stepping back, other countries (like China) may fill the gap, strengthening their agricultural ties in regions where the U.S. previously had influence.

The Constitution provides that an amendment may be proposed either by the Congress with a two-thirds majority vote in both the House of Representatives and the Senate or by a constitutional convention called for by two-thirds of the State legislatures. (National Archives)
